Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 243 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Round 3
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Long limbs, highlighted by a thick lower half. There isn't any room to add to the frame, he's filled it out well.

Delivery & Mechanics: High 3/4 arm slot. Smooth, repeatable delivery highlighted by a quick arm. Windup starts a little off center, facing the third base side. Hands start at his belt, and raise up to the top of his chest when he reaches his balance point. High leg kick brings knee to chest. Hands follow the leg down as he extends out. There's a slight amount of jerk in his head during the throwing process. He finishes with a high leg kick that ends with him bring closed off facing first base.

Fastball: 91-94 T96. Good armside sink low in the zone. The movement helps Kloffenstein to create a lot of grounders. Grade: 55

Curveball: 76-77. 11-5 break. Is a solid fourth offering that may not get as many whiffs, but will keep hitters off balance. Grade: 40

Slider: Solid horizontal movement with some depth. Generates swing and miss when used as to front door righties. Grade: 50

Changeup: 85-86. Good deception and fade. Capable of creating whiffs. Grade: 50

Control and Command: He commands his whole arsenal pretty well, and it's a good enough one to create whiffs. He will have a tendency to pull off and mess in the left handed batters box. His walk numbers aren't too bad, but they aren't bad either. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Highlighted by a good fastball, Kloffenstein has an 4-pitch mix that can be an issue for hitters. He's very good at creating ground balls with any of his pitches, if they don't create whiffs. He's got a starters build and the repertoire to last in the rotation as well.

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 CBB (SD)
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Big, muscular build, particularly in the upper body. Looks heavier than listed weight, no physical projection left.

Hit: Open stance, front heel is off the ground to start. Hands at shoulder height, bat angled over back shoulder. Standard load mechanism. Hands don't move far during the load. Flat bat path. Adept at going with the pitch, can spray the ball to all fields. Shows good bat to ball skills, fights with two strikes. Covers the plate well, though can be beaten with velocity up in the zone. Won't strikeout out a ton, and draws walks. He's not afraid of being behind in the count, he'll be patient to get something he wants to hit. Grade: 50

Power: Any power generated won't be over the fence pop. He might run into a few, but his power will be in the gaps. His frame suggests he might be able to show slightly more game power, but his approach is one of patience and contact. Average raw power doesn't leave much room for growth in this tool. Grade: 30

Field: Athletic enough to stick behind the dish, but also offer versatility at a corner outfield spot. Receives well behind the plate, and moves well behind the plate. Range is limited in the outfield. Just as a catcher, the defense would be average, but with outfield baked in it's a fringe tool. Grade: 45

Arm: Strong arm to throw runners out from behind the plate or the grass. The arm could stick in right field as an outfielder. Grade: 50

Run: His speed is fine for a catcher, but it can limit his range in the outfield. Grade: 30

Overall: Driscoll is a glove first kind of profile. The arm will play wherever the Rays need it to, but that is what is leaned on. Average hit tool means he should never look lost at the plate and it can play in a pinch. The defensive versatility is good, and Driscoll may be in the grass long term, though he has the skills to become a backup backstop in the big leagues.

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 225 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Round 18 (LAD)
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Muscular build. It looks like he's reached physical maturity.

Hit: Hands start by his head and are moving up until the load. Utilizes leg kick that stops just shy of the knee. Swings hard with very fast hands allow him to catch up to velocity. Covers the zone well. Swing is geared to get every drip of power out of his body, because he sells out for power there is a lot of swing and miss. Pull heavy, sees a lot of shifts to the left side. Good feel for the zone and patience leads to plenty of walks. Grade: 40

Power: Hard swing with loft. When he makes barrels up the ball it goes a long way. Raw power is easily plus, if not more. Very good at hunting for pitches to drive when up in the count, but will sell out for power on every swing. The power can play to all fields, but his approach and tendency is to pull the ball, so that's where it shows most. Grade: 55

Field: A reliable glove in the corners. Will make the plays he should. Can play up the middle in a pinch, but is better suited for the corners. Grade: 45

Arm: He will be limited to left with his arm, maybe centerfield. Exhibits fringe, at best, arm strength from the outfield. Grade: 40

Run: Speed plays well on the basepaths, his IQ helps him successfully steal. In the outfield it helps his range and would help him to patrol any of the three spots if his arm allows. Grade: 45

Overall: Hulsizer is a smart player, which certainly helps. When he's up in the count he does a very good job hunting for a pitch to drive. He sells out for power on every swing, so he misses a lot. There is a world where he is one of the most prolific power hitters in the game, but it's more likely he doesn't hit enough to reach that power ceiling. The power makes him very intriguing.

May 2021 Report

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 215 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2020 Round 4
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Lean, wiry, and high waisted build. Sloping shoulders. Looks to be close to frame being maxed out.

Delivery & Mechanics: Over the top armslot. Pretty high effort delivery. The whole motion is quick, highlighted by a quick arm. Starts with shoulders square to the plate. Hands chest high. Quick rocking step as hips turn and hands go up to neck height. Chest high leg kick before extending out towards the plate. Slight bend in the back leg, but he stays tall during the extension. Finishes high with the leg and close off to the plate facing third base side. Some head whack present.

Fastball: 91-94 T97. Arm side run. The reports on this pitch were inconsistent through his college days. He would show up on the upper or lower end of the velocity echelon between one appearance and the next. Though usually on the lower. Between velo and movement, more consistency easily makes this an above average offering and potentially more. Grade: 55

Cutter: 86-88. Some horizontal movement. It's a decent offering that brings another weapon to the table, though might be the worst of his arsenal. Grade: 40

Curveball: 77-79. 11-5 movement. This has the potential to be his best pitch. Garners above average spin in videos shared on social media. This pitch is what he is known for. Spin rates and break make this another potentially plus offering. Grade: 60

Changeup: 84-86. Gets some nice armside fade. It's got the ingredients to be a good offering. Depending on use, it may be above average. Safe bets might put this as a fringe pitch, but it has all the makings of at least an average offering. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Consistency in velo has been his biggest detractor, but his command has not been immune to that. His walk numbers in college spoke to that. With his filthy arsenal, it worked well enough when the pitches were on, but more consistency in this tool would certainly help. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: The stuff seems to play, but the consistency is likely what scared teams off on draft day. He's a hard throwing lefty with a big breaking ball that has a very good chance for at least an average changeup. More command and more consistency could have Eder as a guy jumping up the lists as out of nowhere as when a marlin jumps out of the water.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 187 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2018 Round 1
RuleV: 2022r

Physical Description: Broad shoulder, but skinny frame all around. There looks to still be room to add weight.

Hit: Slightly closed stance. Stands tall at the plate. Hands start up by his head. Small step to trigger the swing. Slight bat wrap sometimes, but quick hands. Shows ability to go with the pitch. Dead red hitter, will swing and miss on offspeed in the zone. Covers the zone well, but lacks consistent feel for barrel. Has an understanding of the strike zone and doesn't often chase bad pitches. Not afraid to work counts. His upper body motions are fairly stiff, but he's still able to generate some good bat speed. Will benefit from improvements in reading spin. Inconsistencies likely cap this grade as a fringe tool. Grade: 45

Power: Most of his power is to the pull side at this point. His pop plays better inside the park, but based on the sheer number of flyballs he hits he'll likely hit a handful of homers too. There is potentially more power to be had as the frame fills out more, but likely more of an extra bases threat. Which plays with his speed. Grade: 50

Field: Has the range to stick up the middle, largely due to his speed. He can cover a lot of ground. His reads and routes are solid. Grade: 50

Arm: Can make all the throws with enough accuracy to be considered a true centerfielder defensively. Grade: 45

Run: Long strides and legs cycle through quickly. Upper body is awkward through the running motion. Uses speed well on both sides of the ball, including a lack of fear to stretch out hits for an extra base. Grade: 70

Overall: Scott has competed at each level the Marlins have placed him at thanks to a wealth of natural ability. He's shown glimpses of just about everything, including pop at the plate. What's really going to decide the profile is getting more consistent with his contact. His speed will more than play, and if all works out could see him hitting atop a lineup. Without more consistency finding the barrel, and finding it against offspeed pitches, then that's not likely to happen. His skills are very raw, but they are all there for him to be a solid contributor at the highest level.

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 218 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2019 Round 1 CBA
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Large frame with broad shoulders. He's got big arms, but there still might be room for a little more weight on the frame.

Hit: Slightly open stance. Slight bend at the knees. Hands are shoulder height to start, and don't travel far during the load process. Toe tap trigger mechanism. Quick, compact swing with an uppercut. Pull heavy approach, with a good amount of flyballs. He does have some swing and miss, but it couples with an overly patient approach at times that puts him in bad counts. Good feel for the zone, will draw plenty of walks. Refinement to his approach will go a long way. Development of this tool will be a big factor in his future. Grade: 45

Power: Quick hands He might have legitimate double plus power. In game he can crush mistakes and has the power to do so. He looks for pitches up to swing at. His uppercut leads to a good number of flyballs. His power isn't limited to mistakes, he can cover the plate well with conviction. The power grade is being held down right now because of his approach. More of a plan at the plate to unlock some the power easily puts this tool in the plus conversation. Grade: 55

Field: Very reliable in the outfield. Has the ability to make the tough plays. Makes good enough reads to stick in centerfield. Grade: 55

Arm: Plenty of arm strength to stick up the middle. His throws have a tendency to get offline. Grade: 45

Run: Long, gliding strides. Speed works well defensively and he can steal bases. Grade: 55

Overall: There is a bevy of tools at Misner's disposal. Some refinement to his approach at the plate would help him to see bumps in his offensive grades. His raw power and speed combination makes him a very intriguing centerfield option for the Marlins. He certainly can stick up the middle defensively, his size is a little misleading to that fact. There's a lot of intrigue to what he could be with even just a half grade more on his hit tool.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/L
Acquired: 2017 Round 5
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Long limbs for his size. Sloping shoulders. There is some more room to add to the frame.

Delivery & Mechanics: Standard 3/4 arm slot. Easy, repeatable delivery. Works quickly, likes to get the ball and go. Body starts off center towards first base. Hands are at his neck and drop to his stomach on the rocker step. As his leg comes up for his balance point the hands rise before they all push down together. He lands slightly closed off, so he throws across his body. His foot drags on the follow throw before coming up for a small leg kick at the end, and he finishes square to the plate.

Fastball: 87-89 T92. Pretty straight, some arm-side run when thrown to the arm side. He commands this pitch well and can spot it all around the zone. Works well off other pitches, and can even become a whiff creator when the other pitches are working. Creates a lot of fly balls. When the other pitches aren't complimenting this pitch, it can be hit around a lot. The command of his entire arsenal helps this pitch to play up in times during games, but it needs a few ticks to really get up a half grade or more. Grade: 45

Curveball: 73-75. Works best when it takes on a 12-6 shape, but every so often it can bleed into the slider and look like more of a slurve. Will use in any count. Can spot to the corners. It can get loopy, and when it does it becomes hittable. It's best used as an asset to create weak contact rather than whiffs. Grade: 45

Slider: 82-84. Sharp sweep on the movement. There is a small amount of depth as well. He likes this pitch a lot against lefties, but he does use it to change pace for righties as well. His ability to create whiffs with it is as a backdoor pitch to righties. He commands this pitch very well to both sides of the plate. Grade: 50

Changeup: 80-81. Good deception. Tumbled at the bottom of the zone. This pitch garners some ugly swings. It can go under utilized sometimes. When it isn't getting whiffs, it's getting a weak grounder. It's his best pitch. Results, coupled with his command of the pitch make it an above average offering. Grade: 55

Control and Command: Not only does Lindow throw a lot of strikes, he throws a lot of competitive strikes. He posted above average walk and strikeout numbers in the lower levels of the minors. He can control his entire arsenal to both sides of the plate. He rarely misses badly off his intended target. Most of his misses are below the zone or just off of a corner. His control is easily plus and the command is not too far behind it. Control: 60 | Command: 55

Overall: The biggest detractor from Lindow is his below average velocity across the board. He really fits the mold of a crafty lefty. His ability to command all four of his pitches around the zone is what helps him to be successful. There is some projection left on the frame, and any ticks on the fastball will help. Even 3-4 MPH extra could make Lindow really pop. As is though he should be able to start games at the major league level.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-0
Weight: 185 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2018 Round 2
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Lean frame. Sloping shoulders. Lower half looks more filled out, but there is room to project more on the frame.

Delivery & Mechanics: Easy, repeatable mechanics. Standard 3/4 slot. Starts with body slightly off center towards the first base side. Hands start up by his neck. Chest high leg lift. As the leg goes down his hands follow and his back knee bends to help drive out towards the plate. He lands closed and throws across his body. Finishes with a flat back, upper half parallel to the ground. Leg comes though and he finishes even facing the plate.

Fastball: 88-90 T92. There's some sink to this. The pitch excels at creating groundballs. It plays best when peppering the corners low, rather than being elevated. He likes to bust it in on righties hands and make some firewood. With good sequencing it can garner some whiffs in on the hands. As he fills out this pitch could become an average offering. Grade: 45

Curveball: 77-83. 12-6 break, and a lot of it. There is sharp break with this pitch that makes a legitimate swing and miss offering. He commands it well enough to use it early in counts too. He uses it early and often to both lefties and righties. When he does miss with it, it's rarely up, mostly it'll be in the dirt from overthrowing. This is what Cate is known for, and for good reason, this is a legit plus pitch and a little better command on it would put it into a plus-plus conversation. Grade: 60

Changeup: A clear third pitch in usage. It gets decent tumble at the bottom of the zone. It looks like Cate has a tendency to slow up his mechanics with this offering. It can be another groundball creating weapon with a little more deception. Grade: 40

Control and Command: He rarely misses up in the zone. Generally it will be missing low or a little wide on the corners. He's always around the zone and posted above average walk numbers in his first full season as a pro. He appears to overthrow when he's pressing for a strike and that causes the ball to find the dirt at a high rate. That's not the worst place to miss since he excels at creating grounders. So he needs to live low in the zone, which he does very well. Control: 60 | Command: 50

Overall: Even as an amateur, Cate had a reputation of having an absolute hammer of a curveball. That remains true in the pro ranks. He compliments it with a fastball and changeup that create grounders well, but any strikeout ability is likely coming from that breaking ball. He's a pitcher who will have to live low in the zone, which does. He'll try to pepper the corners, but if he misses then he finds himself behind in counts frequently. Injury history and a plus breaking ball have people talking about a relief role, but there's backend rotation potential with Cate as he fills out more. I'd expect the Nationals to keep him starting.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 235 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 Draft, Round 5
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Filled out frame. Long limbs. Thick legs. Looks like most of his 235 frame comes from his lower half.

Delivery & Mechanics: Easy motion. 3/4 arm slot. Quick arm with consistency can create deception. Hands stay by his stomach for the break. Hands break as leg goes down. Lacks optimal extension. Finishes falling off to first base. Leg swings all the way across on finish to the point where his throwing shoulder is facing the plate. Quick tempo on the mound.

Fastball: Mixes 4-seam and sinker. 4-seam is 91-94 T95. Sinker and FB both average just over 92MPH. Generally uses a sinker that generates arm-side run. Can mix in a 4-seam, but not often. Not afraid to work this pitch to both sides of the plate. The pitch turns more hittable the higher it is in the zone. Grade: 45

Curveball: 79-82. 11 to 5 shape. Get's good depth on the pitch. Sharp and late bite to it. Uses this pitch to generate whiffs against RHH. Not afraid to use it early in the count, especially against LHH. Works it to both sides of the plate. Commands this pitch better than the FB. Grade: 50

Changeup: 86-87. Gets fade similar to the sinker. Almost only show to left handed hitters. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Lives around the zone and doesn't walk too many guys. When he misses with the fastball, he's got a tendency to do so over the middle of the plate. Shows a really good feel to command his breaking ball, but is not close to the same feel with his fastball. Can work to both sides of the plate with both pitches. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Walker was hurt for the 2020 season, but already debuted in 2019. It's clear the Braves see him as a reliever. He's likely an up and down bullpen depth piece, mostly due to his stuff. While the curveball is clearly his best pitch, and is good enough to consistently get big league hitters out, it isn't strong enough to stand on its own. His fastball/sinker combo is what gets the bulk of use for him and neither pitch is good enough to have him succeed in high leverage situations, but it can play serviceable enough to play off the breaking ball for an inning. Improved command, or a bump to his fastball would are the keys to a bigger bullpen role.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 25 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 172 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2014 IFA
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Physically mature. Thick build, but not in a bad way. He looks heavier than the listed weight. Appears to have built out the frame very well.

Delivery & Mechanics: Traditional 3/4 arm slot. High effort delivery. Ditched the windup and threw only out of the stretch by the end of 2019, which really helped simplify the mechanics. Hands are stomach height. Keeps front leg open. Hands rise to chest as leg comes up. Before reaching the height of the balance point the hands start dropping. Stays tall as he extends out. Finishes high and facing the plate.

Fastball: 94-95. Arm side run. Likes to make this pitch come back to the outside corner against righties. He tends to bury this pitch when he tries to put a little more behind it. He prefers to use this to change pace off his curveball rather than lead with it. Plays best at the knees, which is where he tries to work it. Grade: 45

Curveball: 77. Not quite a true 12-6 shape, but very close. Will use this pitch in any count. Sharp break creates whiffs. It doesn't get as much vertical movement as you'd like, but it's still a pitch he has a lot of confidence in. He controls it to both sides of the plate, making the pitch play up. Grade: 45

Slider: Can get up to 88. Gets some horizontal movement, but it's more of a gyro offering. Visually, the shape looks somewhere in the middle of a true slider or true cutter. It doesn't fool many hitters, but can get a swing and miss when breaking away from a corner. If he misses in the wrong spot, this pitch can get taken a very long way. Grade: 40

Control and Command: He tends to overthrow quite a bit, causing him to bury his pitches. He also can miss corners. Walks are a big part of his game. That being said, he does a good job keeping everything off the big part of the plate. So the knock in control is more for missing the zone, rather than missing in spots susceptible to hard contact. Control: 40 | Command: 30

Overall: Abandoning the windup was helpful in simplifying mechanics, but there's still plenty of control issues for Rosado. His pitch mix plays well off each other, but there's no pitch that pops as one that can stand alone. He loves to employ the curveball early and often, which makes the fastball play well. Without any significant improvement somewhere, it's going to be a very tough road for Rosado to have a big league future.

Physical Description: Small, but very thick frame, especially in the upper body. He looks to be physically mature. High waist for the frame.

Hit: Sets up hands by his head. Very pronounced pre pitch bathead movement. Open stance. Slight bend at the knees. Only the toes of his front foot touch the dirt prior to delivery. Utilizes a leg kick that stops just shy of his knee as a load mechanism. Lots of bat wrap, but he makes up for it with quick hands and good hand eye coordination. That will translate to him not swinging and missing a ton, but with the amount he swings it yields a lot of bad contact. He has trouble going to the opposite field with any sort of intent too. Many times he's just late and inside outs a ball the other way. Better pitch selection would go a long way in helping improve this grade, and his profile as a whole Grade: 40

Power: Any power he has will be gap to gap. There are times he can put his best swing on the ball and drive it to the wall, but there will be limited over the fence pop. Everything is pull side right now. Being more selective might help him to see a boost in this grade, but not a big one. Grade: 30

Field: Likely limited to second base at the big league level, though he has played elsewhere on the dirt at the lower levels. His hands and range are good enough to not be a liability as a defender. Grade: 45

Arm: Arm is more than capable of handling throws from second. Might struggle if moved anywhere else in the dirt. Grade: 45

Run: Isn't quite an average runner. Can steal a handful of bases, but won't ever be a true speed threat on the basepaths. It doesn't affect too much on the defensive side of things. Grade: 40

Overall: The hit tool is what makes Santana intriguing as a prospect. It could be very special if he were to combine his bat to ball skills and feel for the zone to be more selective as a hitter. He swings a lot and it winds up hurting his hit tool. If he does take his way into a hitters count, he can square up nicely on the pitch, but by swinging so much those situations have to be gifted by the pitcher. Adjustments could see the hit tool soar into potentially plus territory. The rest of the profile probably isn't strong enough to make a big league impact without hit tool improvements.

Jan 2021 Report

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2016 IFA
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Thin frame with long limbs. Plenty of room to add good weight to the frame.

Delivery & Mechanics: Smooth, easy motion with a sidearm delivery. Hands start at the belt. He raises them to his chest as the leg comes up. Keeps upper half slightly bent as he extends out. Once he lands his torso straightens up. From his shoulder to his fingertips his arm is pretty much a straight line from his arm slot. As he finishes his body pops up and his back leg swings through so his hips finish facing the first base side. He works quickly in game.

Fastball: 89-92. Generates good armside run and sink low in the zone thanks to his arm slot. He likes to work this pitch all around the zone. He has trouble commanding it at times. He won't get many whiffs with the pitch, but between the movement and his arm slot, it generates plenty of groundballs. Adding some good weight could help see a velo bump that will in turn improve the grade. Grade: 40

Slider: It garners some sweep, especially when thrown to the glove side. This is his best pitch. It can create whiffs to both sides of the plate regardless of what handed hitter is at the plate.. The velo separation off the fastball along with the release point help to get swings and misses. This, like any of his pitches, will be used in any count or any situation. Grade: 45

Changeup: 84-85. This pitch has fade and essentially the same movement profile as the fastball. It doesn't fool many batters despite getting more movement than the fastball. More velo separation would help. As is, it doesn't fool many hitters with the speed. It's clearly his third pitch, but he has enough confidence to use it in almost any situation. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Walk numbers are not an issue with Collado. He generally is around the plate with all three of his pitches. Once in awhile he can over rotate during delivery and because of his arm slot he misses really badly, but those are few and far between. More importantly, he can bounce right back into the strike zone. That said, he has trouble hitting his spots. His catchers generally are receiving the ball on the opposite side of the plate that they called for. Control: 50 | Command: 40

Overall: Being unique can be a good thing for a pitcher when the pitcher can pull it off, and Collado has the ingredients to do it. Some extra weight to the frame should add a few ticks to the fastball, which will boost the overall profile. Right now he's different enough to keep guys off balance. The stuff needs to catch up to that. If he can find a way to improve movement on his changeup, add velo to the fastball, or create more velo separation with the changeup then his outlook will continue to improve. Right now, he can serve in the multi-inning relief role the Astros have been using him in. Projecting the weight and velo is really the only way to project him in a future big league bullpen.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 175 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2013 IFA
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Long, lean frame. High waist. There's still some projection left, particularly in the upper half.

Hit: Even stance. Slight bend in the knees. Upper half stays tall. Hands start over his shoulder, but above his head. Lots of up and down movement from the bat head pre pitch. Hands remain loud through the load. Utilizes a double toe tap to start the swing. Quick hands allow him to get around on velocity. Extremely patient at the plate, not afraid of starting a count 0-2 in any situation. That leaves little room for error, which makes his strikeout numbers higher than where is bat to ball skills are at. He hunts for pitches inside to accentuate a very pull heavy approach. Grade: 45

Power: Quick hands and some loft give De La Cruz some pop. The higher the level, the more the power is limited to his pull side. The raw power suggests more in the tank. He can do damage on very specific pitches right now. Learning to spread the power around the diamond would go a long way. Grade: 40

Field: He's played right field for the Astros. He's got more than enough defensive ability to stick on the corner. This is the best part of his game. Grade: 50

Arm: The arm is strong enough for right field. It would play above average in left. Grade: 45

Run: There is some speed with De La Cruz. He'll be able to steal a base here and there based on speed, but hasn't shown the instinct to do so consistently. Grade: 45

Overall: The calling card for De La Cruz is his defense. He would be an above average defender in left, but has plenty of chops to stick in right field. Right now it's a clear hit over power profile at the plate, but his quick hands make it seem like there's room for those two tools to draw even. The better the pitching, the more he's relied on pulling the ball. The defense would play easily if the bat would allow.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 200 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2020 Draft, Round 5
RuleV: 2023

Physical Description: Has built well on his frame so far. There is still some projection left for the Astros to work with. Kind of a lanky frame at this point.

Hit: This is his carrying tool. Open stance. Hands start at shoulder height, with bat head close to vertical. Utilizes a shin high leg kick to trigger the swing. Hands are quick and smooth to the ball. The hands are the main ingredient in what made Whitcomb a draft pick out of Division II. Grade: 50

Power: Showed some homerun power both in the Cape Cod League and in college. His frame suggests there's probably some pop to be had at the professional level too. As the Astros get their hands on him, he could tap more into his average raw power. Grade: 40

Field: Ultimately his home on the dirt isn't a given. He's a shortstop now, and can play there. Some believe his best chance might be to transition to second base. Grade: 45

Arm: The arm may not wow anybody, but it is strong enough to play at shortstop. He might struggle on some throws due to the below average arm strength. Should be plenty fine if he makes the move to second base, as many are predicting. Grade: 45

Run: Only stole a couple of bases in college. Speed shouldn't kill him defensively. Grade: 40

Overall: The very last pick of the, albeit shortened, 2020 draft out of Division II UC San Diego is a pure hitter. Many believe in his ability to hit the ball at the professional level. Due to his size, he might not be a shortstop long term. That might mean he stays up the middle and winds up at second base. Regardless, that hit tool will carry him as far as he goes in the professional ranks.

Age: 26 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 217 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2016 Draft, Round 2
RuleV: Eligbible

Physical Description: Medium build, frame is filled out. He's at physical maturity. Looks a tad lighter than the listed weight.

Hit: Sets up with his hands at chest height and tight to the body. Rests bat on his shoulder pre pitch. Slightly open stance and small bend at the knees. Upper body is bent over slightly. Utilizes a quick, mid-shin, high leg kick. He's short to the ball. Puts every ounce of energy possible into each swing, resulting in plenty of swing and miss. Does show the feel to go with the ball and hit to all fields. Some loft in the swing helps it play well with pitches up in the zone. He can have trouble getting the barrel on pitches low in the zone. Has a good idea of the zone east to west, but is liable to expand below the zone, especially with breaking balls. Grade: 40

Power: Between the effort in each swing and the loft, there is plenty of pop when he gets a barrel on the ball. Right now, there is probably above average raw power. In game he can access it sometimes when he gets a pitch to hit up in the zone. The power does play to all fields in game. If he can find a way to get to those pitches down in the zone then he will be able to do more damage in the power department. Grade: 45

Field: He has the speed and instincts to stick in centerfield. He can make the necessary reads and his speed helps him get to the ball. Grade: 45

Arm: The arm is what might keep him from staying up the middle. It's not the strongest arm, but it is fairly accurate. He may be limited to left field because of the strength. Grade: 45

Run: He's not only a good runner, but he uses the speed well. Long strides help him to be an above average runner to begin with. His speed helps cover ground defensively. He shows the instincts to be a base stealer as well. His use of speed really helps it play plus. Grade: 60

Overall: Dawson is a good athlete with an interesting ceiling if it all clicks. His power and speed will play at the big league level, but the hit tool is what needs to see some improvement. Beyond that, his defense will play in center, but his arm strength will likely limit him to left field. Improvements there will tick up the power and give the Astros a solid platoon-type outfielder.

Evaluator: Trevor Hooth

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-4
Weight: 222 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 3
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Lean frame with long levers. He looks a little lighter than listed weight with room to grow on the frame.

Delivery & Mechanics: From the left side of the plate, even stance with feet slight more than shoulder width apart and slight bend in the knees. Utilizes a shin high leg kick. Hands start at shoulder height, bat head is close to resting on his shoulder. Bat head raises with some bat wrap during the load. Long bat path. From the right side, it is an identical operation. He shows the ability to go with the pitch and use the whole field. Shows good feel to hit. Good feel for the strike zone should allow him to draw plenty of walks, but the length in his swing will cause plenty of whiffs.

Fastball: 92-95 T97. Crisp pitch that has some ride through the zone. He relies on it heavily, which means as an outing goes on it can become more hittable. Likes to live at the knees with the pitch, but it does play up in the zone. When his other pitches are going the fastball can play up, but standing alone it's an above average offering. Grade: 55

Slider: 80-82. Big gyro movement makes this a swing and miss offering. He likes to send it to lefties backfoot in two strike counts to put the hitters away. It can be a valuable pitch against both handed batters. Grade: 60

Changeup: This pitch is not used often. Generates some armside fade. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Slaten has posted excellent strikeout numbers because of his insanely good stuff, but they are coupled with high walk numbers. He's not immune to sailing a pitch or even spiking one in the span of an inning. Mostly, he's not missing that badly, but he falls behind in counts and inflates his pitch count. Steps forward here would be huge in his professional rise. Control: 40 | Command: 30

Overall: Slaten is likely destined for the bullpen long term, but with his fastball/slider combination he could be a very successful bullpen arm. Rangers still have him starting, and he's got the frame to do that. If he is going to stick in the rotation he'll need to take some effort out of the delivery, and see improvements in his changeup and command. The slider is a true beauty, however.

Age: 19 yr
Height: 5-11
Weight: 188 lbs
Hits/Throws: S/L
Acquired: 2017 IFA
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Lean frame with decently long levers. Still some room to grow, and changes are likely as the teen approaches physical maturity.

Hit: From the left side of the plate, even stance with feet slightly more than shoulder width apart and slight bend in the knees. Grade: 50

Power: Mostly gap power, which works well with his speed. As he physically matures there might be some more over the fence power in the cards. His hand eye coordination will help him tap into his raw power in games. He scatters the power to all fields as well. Grade: 45

Field: Likely limited to second base if he stays on the infield due to poor defensive actions. A candidate to move off the dirt. Grade: 30

Arm: Doesn't get high marks for his arm. His arm strength will force him off the left side of the infield. Grade: 40

Run: Gets to top speed quickly. Long, quick strides help on both sides of the ball. Grade: 60

Overall: Between his speed and feel to hit, there are a lot of weapons for Moss to use on the offensive side of the ball. As he fills out, he could add some more power. He showed a lot of ability as a teen in Arizona facing competition that was older than him. Defensively he'll have to be a second baseman, or even left fielder in the long term. It's a bat first profile, and a high variance one at that, but there is also a decently high ceiling he could reach if things click.

Age: 25 yr

Hits/Throws: R/L
Acquired: 2017 Round 5
RuleV: Eligible

Physical Description: Sloping shoulders. Looks heavier than listed weight. Thick lower half with some room for projection in the upper half.

Delivery & Mechanics: High 3/4 arm slot. Higher effort delivery. Starts slightly off center to the plate towards first base. Hands start by his neck, as he rocks they drop down to his stomach and raise back up as his leg lifts. Lands closed. Quick arm. Once he starts the motion with his arm, both the throw and the back leg explode through the finish.

Fastball: 88-92. like to work up with the pitch, but it has a tendency to sail on him. Plays at the knees when the secondaries are working. Not much movement, so it gets squared up fairly often when he has to rely on it. Grade: 40

Curveball: 1-7 shape. Lots of movement can be loopy. Throws it early and often to both righties and lefties. Not afraid to double up on this pitch. Likes to backdoor righties to steals strike early, and bury it late in counts. Grade: 55

Slider: Shows plenty of sweep with just enough gyro to generate whiffs. Likes to break it inside on righties hands. He doesn't use it often, but shows feel to sequence it well enough to create whiffs. Could be an average offering, but it's under utilized. Grade: 45

Changeup: Some fade at the bottom of the zone. Mostly just flashes this pitch to change pace. Grade: 40

Control and Command: While he doesn't often miss by a lot, he nibbles so he finds himself behind in the count often. He has good enough control of all his pitches, but falling behind really limits his ability to access his arsenal because he'll rely on the fastball. His curveball command is important based on how frequently he throws it, and he shows a good ability to do that. Control: 45 | Command: 40

Overall: Latz put up some good numbers in 2019 and even garnered a late invite to the alternate site in 2020. His breaking pitches are solid and could help him carve a rotation role, but he'll need to find a way to sit in the upper echelon of his velocity more often or take a step forward in command. He likely thrives more in a long relief type role.

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 180 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2017 Round 15
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Lanky and lean build. There's room for more on the frame. Looks like he's a touch lighter than listed weight.

Delivery & Mechanics: Over the top delivery. High effort movements, but very quick arm. Starts slightly off center towards the third base. Hands are belt high. Hands stay around the same level through the balance point. Slight bend in the knee as he extends out. Front leg straightens up to the landing spot. Shoulders are off kilter, front shoulder higher when he lands. Arm stays back a long time as hips rotate, really nice separation. Head whack on the follow through, high leg kick on the finish.

Fastball: 94-97. Rides through the zone. Creates quite a bit of swing and miss along with weak grounders. It plays all around the zone. Likes to bust it in on the hitters hands late in count. Downhill plane and velocity make this a tough pitch for the batter to read. Grade: 60

Curveball: Low 80's. 12-6 shape. Can manipulate to have tighter break to get whiffs late in the count. When he locates it low in the zone, it gets a good amount of vertical movement. Even at the loopier end, it creates plenty of grounders. Tendency for early release, leaving the pitch well above the zone and non-competitive. Grade: 50

Changeup: High 80's. Fade at the bottom of the zone. Mostly just flashes it to change pace. Grade: 40

Control and Command: Posted high walk numbers in the low levels of the minors. He has a tendency to miss well above the zone with each of his pitches. He can also miss wide when trying to be too precise on the corners. His stuff all plays well in the zone. The command is best when throwing to the bottom of the zone, can have trouble throwing competitive pitches up at times. Control: 40 | Command: 30

Overall: Vanasco has a solid two pitch mix already that served him well in the lower levels of the minors. His fastball has seen significant improvement in velocity since being drafted, all behind his quick arm action. His curveball is a weapon when he's manipulating the break well, depending on count. If his changeup sees strides in usage, it could be a decent enough third pitch. If not, his high effort delivery might make him a solid bullpen candidate down the road. He underwent Tommy John in September of 2020.

Age: 24 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 170 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 Draft, Round 3
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Lean build, and has build out the frame nicely. There is some room project a little more on the frame. He looks a little bigger than the listed weight.

Mechanics: Standard 3/4 arm slot. Smooth, low effort delivery. Quick arm. Sets up way on the first side of the rubber. Starts windup with the body facing third base. Hands are belt high and rise up to stomach height at the balance point. Back leg drops slightly as extends out. Lands closed. Follow through leg kick is high and he finishes square to the plate.

Fastball: 90-94. Lots of armside run. Some sinking action low in the zone. Plays well lower in the zone where it can create grounders. Not afraid to work it up in the zone, but it becomes very hittable if he doesn't climb the ladder all the way up. Grade: 40

Curveball: 80-83. 1-7 movement. Will use early in the count. It can be lethal when breaking down out of the zone. He controls it well in terms of throwing competitive pitches, but it has a tendency to stay higher in the zone. This pitch could play average if it garnered more consistent whiffs. Grade: 45

Slider: Takes more of a slurvy shape, but it is distinct from his curveball. The depth gives this pitch some swing and miss potential, but it often breaks right over the middle where hitters can do damage to it. It gets frequent use in any situation. Grade: 40

Changeup: 84-85. Lots of fade down. This is his best pitch when executed. Can garner some swing and miss down in the zone. Once he finds the feel, this is specifically used as an out pitch. This pitch could be above average if not for control issues. Grade: 45

Control and Command: He doesn't miss by a ton with lost of wild pitches, but he's still pretty all over the place. Shows better control of his breaking pitches than his fastball or changeup. He can generally get the ball north and south well enough, but east to west is when issues most often arise. Control: 30 | Command: 30

Overall: With more control, there's potential as a starter. Every one of his pitches could see a minimum half grade bump with a little more control. His curveball and changeup both could play, but setting them up and throwing them to the spot they need to go is an issue. He also needs to go deeper into outings, only reaching the fifth inning mark twice in 2019. At present, the control will hold him back but he could fill in a long relief role in a pinch.
