Feb 2021 Report

Evaluator: Jake Kerns

Age: 20 yr
Height: 6-1
Weight: 165 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2018 IFA
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Average height. Lean build with some remaining physical projection. High waisted. Athletic. High IQ player.

Hit: Stands tall and open. Hands stay out front. Keeps his weight on his back leg as he loads. Moderate leg kick as he steps into the pitch. Well-timed swing that produces above-average bat speed. Mostly linear swing that creates line drive contact, but he does attack the ball from a downward plane at times. At its best, it's a quick, efficient stroke that gets to the ball in a hurry. Beginning to lift the ball, but has produced more ground outs than fly outs in two abbreviated minor league seasons. Shows an average eye on pitches out of the zone. Can be aggressive at the plate, but has good feel for the barrel and does not strike out often. Added patience and pitch selection in the box would serve him well. His speed helps the tool play up. Grade: 45

Power: Above-average raw power that mostly plays as gap power during games. Ball jumps off the bat during BP. Generates a lot of linedrive contact to the shallow and middle parts of the grass. Those balls will begin to carry as he physically matures and better barrels the ball. He has a quick bat and already creates a good amount of natural loft off the bat. There's future average or better power in his bat if he continues to develop. Grade: 45

Field: Shows fluid actions in the grass. Quick out of his breaks and takes good routes. Can cover a lot of ground and has above-average or better range in CF. Has experience with all three outfield positions, but may fit best in RF as he physically matures and loses a step. Grade: 55

Arm: Strong arm with good carry from the grass. High release point. Regularly hits the cutoff man and has enough arm strength to throw runners out across the infield. Grade: 55

Run: Plus runner; timed 4.17 down the line from the right side. Can take an extra base on balls hit to the grass. Keeps his head on a swivel on the basepaths. Hustles and plays all out. Quick out of his breaks and is a legitimate stolen base threat. Actively wants to take a base. Could steal double digit bags at the next level. Grade: 60

Overall: Rojas is one of the more tooled up players in the Phillies system. He's yet to hit full-season ball, but there's growing excitement with what he could become. If Rojas maxes out, he's an above-average regular and someone that could contribute in all facets of the game. For now, he simply needs to further mature and turn those raw tools into skills.
