Physical Description: Long, lean frame with long limbs. Some muscle in the legs and butt already. Plenty of room for additional weight in the upper body, 15-20 pounds. Upside to look like an NFL wide receiver in an ideal situation.
Hit: Sets up with hands high, eye-level, and the bat over the shoulder with some rocking. Base is just beyond shoulder-width and straight on. Some bend in the lead leg. Mid-thigh leg kick used as trigger as he really sits into the back leg and coils, showing back pocket and numbers to the pitcher. Hands float back and down to shoulder. Gets good hip/shoulder separation. Steep bat path that can lift the ball. Above-average bat speed. Swing gets pushy and saps power. Tendency to overswing and pull off the ball or bail with the back leg. Recognizes spin during limited in-game looks. Struggles to barrel up the ball consistently. Likely to get exposed against good competition. Grade: 40
Power: Good-sized frame that should grow into above-average/plus raw. Bat speed above-average already. Looks to drive the ball; loft in the bat path. Pull-side pop only right now with gap power up the middle and oppo. Likely to grow into all fields power. Comes to the plate looking to do damage. Hit tool limits what he'll get to in game. Grade: 50
Field: Soft hands with good actions. A little awkward approaching the ball during fielding drills, but looked fine in game film. Strides are slow which will limit his range. Good chance he moves to 3rd as he fills out and slows down more, but looks to have the instincts and arm to play there. Fine for a corner OF if his 1st step proves too slow for 3rd. Grade: 45
Arm: Ball carries firmly across the infield. Plenty of strength to get zip on it while on the run or off balance. Will struggle to get into good throwing position near the end of his range. Hands are smooth and quick; gets the ball out fast. Should play at any position. Grade: 60
Run: Deceptively slow. Looks athletic, but strides and big and slow to turn over -- like he's not used to having long legs yet. Will limit his defensive range and impact on the bases. Closer to average underway, but needs a bit to get going. Projects to be below average at maturity. Grade: 40
Overall: Rodriguez looks the part of a future power hitter with a big arm that will play at 3rd or in right. There's plenty of power for 3rd or a corner outfield spot, but the hit tool will limit his ability to get to it in game. High end of the profile is an average regular with middle of the order thunder. Low end is a AAAA masher who doesn't hit enough to stick. High risk, high reward profile.
