Apr 2021 Report

Evaluator: Geoff Pontes

Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 210 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 1
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Tall, strong, with good physicality. Extremely athletic build with smooth easy mechanisms that shine through in his swing. Room to add maybe 10-15 pounds of muscle and the ability to do it without losing athleticism.

Hit: Sets slightly open; hands set high by ear flap; crouch used as timing mechanism. Slight toe tap, lighting fast hands and bat speed. Shows the ability to stay on time and keep hands inside. Destroys fastballs, which is where he does most of his damage. Struggles against spin and offspeed. Fairly angular bat path that leads to a major hole down and away. Any pitch on the bottom outside quadrant is an automatic strike. Shows the ability to hit the high fastball and anything on the inner-half. Will expand but almost exclusively versus sliders and changeups. Will always swing and miss but balances it with on-base ability and quality of contact. Hole in his swing will ultimately keep him from an average hit tool. Grade: 45

Power: Double-plus raw that plays plus in games. Elite bat speed, raw strength and leverage allow Bishop to hit for power consistently putting on shows in batting practice and connecting for light tower shots in game. Adjustments to his setup and ultimately his swing path that simplified his movement and unlocked plus in game power. Grade: 60

Field: Average fielder that takes inconsistent and often inefficient routes to the ball. Plus speed allows him to cover ground and make up for poor reads off the bat. Despite his lack of awareness his speed covers for his warts. Grade: 50

Arm: Below average arm that lacks carry or strength. Likely ends up in left field due to his lack of arm strength. Grade: 40

Run: Plus runner that will steal bases and put pressure on defenses with his base running. Speed allows him to handle any position in the outfield, even if his routes and arm limit that in reality. Grade: 60

Overall: A tooled up but imperfect prospect, with some of the loudest tools and highest upside of any of the Giants position players. Unlikely to be a star due to his struggles versus spin and lack of defensive value. He will however fill the highlight reels with his power and speed. Hitting long home runs and stealing bases. There's a possibility his fielding and contact skills improve to the point that he pushes star level, but he's comfortably an everyday regular due to his impact offensively. A talented player destined for high highs and low lows.
