Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Height: 6-2
Weight: 215 lbs

Acquired: 2013 IFA (WAS)
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Big length and size with average athletic traits. Shorter arms and legs with sturdy, broad shoulders. Sound upper half, reached full maturity.

Hit: Stands up straight and tall in the box from the right side. Very little bend in the knees; hands well above the letters with bent elbows. Moving parts preload, bits of movement before the pitch with a heavy left leg kick up to the belt. Average bat speed with a patient all fields approach. Feasts on pitches middle in; struggles mightily off-speed away. Struggles to make consistent loud contact. Grade: 50

Power: Shows glimpses of more in-game pop, still lacks a sound power tool. Drives the ball to the opposite field and pull-side, but lacks consistent over-the-fence pop. More of a contact-oriented approach. Still searching for more in-game power. Grade: 40

Field: Above-average fielding ability with good instincts and range. Shows the ability to handle third base, can bounce around the infield. Stays on his toes, solid awareness. Gets the jersey dirty with diving grabs; turns double plays with smooth glove-to-hand-transfers. Grade: 55

Arm: Powerful arm equipped to throw out baserunners at the major league level. Plus velocity and accuracy from third base. Throws come out quickly with precision. Highlight defensive tool. Grade: 60

Run: Below-average speed and quickness hinders on-base ability. Slow strides out of the box; doesn't reach top gear. Lack of athleticism limits his range defensively at times. Slower; big-bodied build. Grade: 40

Overall: Gutierrez has shown more glimpses of in-game power during his MLB debut, but his lack of carrying offensive tools still make him a bit of a mystery. He can handle the hot corner at the major league level with great arm strength and solid defensive awareness. His lack of consistent offensive production has held him back to this point.
