Apr 2021 Report

Evaluator: James Chipman

Age: 22 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/L
Acquired: 2017 Round 3
RuleV: 2021

Physical Description: Good pitcher's body. Every bit of 6' 2" 195 pound list. Athletic, sturdy build. Average torso; high waist with broad shoulders and long levers. Average core; sturdy lower half. Minimal physical projection remaining.

Delivery & Mechanics: Semi-windup; tall and fall deployment. High 3/4 arm slot with above-average arm speed and moderate effort in the delivery. Short stride with above-average extension. Above-average deception from belt high leg kick and late exposure. High slot generates natural downward plane. Good rhythm. Simple mechanics that are repeated fairly well.

Fastball: Sits 91-94 t96; mostly fringy low-90s velocity. Heavy sink when he pounds it in the lower third. Modest arm-side run elsewhere in the zone. Navigates the pitch well around the zone; manipulates velo and movement. Offering elicits both swing and miss and weak contact. Advanced pitchability, great extension and deception pad the overall quality of the offering. Grade: 55

Curveball: Hammer curveball; sits 79-83 with tight rotation, huge sweepy depth and sharp bite. Backdoors the offering early in counts to steal strikes and works it away as a swing and miss chaser. Challenges RHB, absolute murder on LHB as a put-away offering. Has gained consistency over his pro career; should develop into an above-average weapon. Grade: 55

Changeup: Offering has vastly improved with pro instruction. Sits 83-85 with optimal velo separation; has feel, thrown with conviction while maintaining arm-speed. Features impressive late tumble and modest arm-side fade at its best. Solid against same sided batters; tough against RHB. Elicits both swing and miss and weak contact. Grade: 50

Control and Command: Shows flashes of advanced pitchability; sequencing well, pitching backwards and attacking all four quads. Manipulates velo and movement extremely well. Can get too creative and passive at times hunting for strikeouts; resulting in long at-bats and strings of free passes. Has made great strides annually with pro instruction but overall it's likely a limited command profile probably better suited for a reliever role. Control: 40 | Command: 40

Overall: Corry's profile features an above-average arsenal with raw pitchabilty and the ability to miss bats and generate weak contact. A potential mid-rotation stalwart, the inconsistent command has me bearish, thinking a bullpen role is the more likely outcome. Regardless, Corry is a prospect worth closely monitoring this season as his handedness and impressive arsenal are likely to have big league impact regardless of the role he's given.
