Age: 23 yr
Height: 6-3
Weight: 205 lbs
Hits/Throws: L/R
Acquired: 2019 Round 4
RuleV: 2022

Physical Description: Muscular, lean frame with sloping shoulders. Frame is built out well with little projection left.

Hit: Slightly open stance, slight bend in the knees. Torso starts tall, hands at chest height. As he gets set to load the bat wiggle goes away and he rests the bat head on his shoulder.Small leg lift load as the bat head raises into position. Swings very hard with plenty of length to the swing and a slight uppercut. Generally a patient approach, which can put him in pitchers counts. Shows the ability to read spin and adjust to offspeed. He doesn't show great barrel control, but he has good hand eye coordination which keeps strikeout numbers relatively down and weak contact up. Pull heavy approach. Has the ability to draw walks at a high mark too. Ultimately more consistency in barreling the ball will go a long way towards reaching a likely fringe-average ceiling on the tool. Grade: 40

Power: Based on how hard he swings, and the uppercut, he'll drive balls out of the park when he gets a hold of them. The power plays pull side, along with his approach. The plus raw power will be tough to access in game with the inconsistency barreling pitches. Grade: 45

Field: Great reactions at third base. Soft hands, has no problem with grounders or line drives. Can read jump balls. Grade: 60

Arm: Good accuracy and carry across the diamond. Has the arm to stick at third base. Grade: 50

Run: Will never be a stealing threat, and relies on reactions more than speed defensively. Grade: 40

Overall: Defensively speaking, Gray can hold his own at the hot corner. That part of his game is very impressive. Offensively, there's a long way to go to catch up. He swings very hard with the goal of destroying each pitch. Good hand eye coordination helps, but his barrel control isn't great so it results in a lot of weak contact. He'll have to show improvements at the plate to continue ascending, but his defensive should give him more than enough chance for that to happen.
