Apr 2021 Report

Evaluator: Isaiah Burrows

Age: 21 yr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 195 lbs
Hits/Throws: R/R
Acquired: 2015 IFA
RuleV: On 40-Man Roster

Physical Description: Stocky build with solid height and weight to his frame. Long arms and long legs. Barrel chested with broad shoulders. Big presence on the mound.

Delivery & Mechanics: Low three-quarter slot delivery with a distinct leg kick from the right side. Extremely loose arm action that yields good extension. Stiff front leg in windup puts emphasis on his upper body throughout his delivery. Points of effort in delivery. Produces quality stuff, lacks consistent command.

Fastball: Electric mid-90s offering with great velocity and life. Fastball sits 93-95 and touches 100. Heavy sink action down in the zone. Good armside run and deception. Forces soft contact and empty swings. Plus pitch with its velocity and movement. Grade: 60

Slider: Mid-80s off-speed pitch with hard break and depth. Sits 83-86 with improved depth and great movement. Sharp break and tight rotation makes it stand out. Utilizes it as a putout pitch, forces empty swings. Improved depth and consistency earns a plus grade. Grade: 60

Changeup: Low-80s changeup that remains a work in progress. Shows signs of solid fade and tumble, lacks bite and consistency. Doesn't throw changeup much in any count. Lacks the feel for it as a third pitch. Needs more improvement. Grade: 45

Control and Command: Experiences several highs and lows in his command. Dots the black with his fastball-slider combination at times, then issues a four-pitch walk. Steady improvement in his control. Needs to improve the quality of his strikes, leaves a lot over the plate. Overpowers guys with his stuff, must refine his command to fulfill his potential Control: 40 | Command: 35

Overall: Santos has some of the most electric stuff in the system with his plus-graded fastball and slider, but his lack of innings and command issues hold him back to this point. He needs to find a better feel of the zone and improve his changeup as a consistent third pitch to live up to his starter billing.
